Guy Withers is a 20 year old up-and-coming young Tenor in the South West of England and Cardiff studying with Miriam Bowen and John Hugh Thomas. He is currently reading Music (BMus) at Cardiff University, where he also holds a vocal scholarship. Guy is a Lay Clerk at Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral and, as well as establishing himself as a soloist, sings regularly with a number of other choirs. He is a member of The National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Ralph Allwood’s Rodolfus Choir, Cardiff University Chamber Choir and The Palestrina Singers. Guy is also a regular principal with Bristol Opera Company and Tessitoura.
Guy has won numerous awards and prizes at singing competitions in the South West, including The Junior Championship at Bristol Festival of Music and Drama and The Adult Championship at Kingswood Eisteddfod.
Guy will sing next as The Sailor in Opera’r Ddraig’s production of Dido & Aenaes at The Gate Theatre, Cardiff – 14th to 17th February.
A new season starts – “After a busy summer, I am now ready to start a new season of music and singing in Cardiff having moved back to the city. Now a Lay Clerk with Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir, I will be singing services weekly with them and in concerts over the year. I aim to sing with a number of Cardiff University choirs and Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society again, and hopefully more….”
Some Summer Singing – “After finishing Manon Lescaut in early May, I have had a few solo opportunities as well as reprising my role as Tamino with Tessitoura. I sang the tenor solos in Handel’s Messiah, this time with Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society at Llandaff Cathedral, and in Charptenier’s Te Deum with Cor Y Cymoedd in Ebbw Vale….”
A new take on Manon Lescaut – “May 2011 saw my fourth production with Bristol Opera Company in their newest project, Manon Lescaut. I was lucky enough to play two roles with the company this time, Edmondo, the student, and The Lamplighter. This years production took place at Filton College’s Olympus Theatre, the same venue as years previous, and I was very happy to return….”
