Guy Withers is a 20 year old up-and-coming young Tenor in the South West of England and Cardiff studying with John Hugh Thomas. He is currently reading Music (BMus) at Cardiff University, where he also holds a vocal scholarship. Guy is a Lay-Clerk at Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral and, as well as establishing himself as a soloist, sings regularly with a number of other choirs. He is a member of The National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Ralph Allwood’s Rodolfus Choir, Cardiff University Chamber Choir and The Palestrina Singers. Guy has also sung principal roles with Bristol Opera Company, Tessitoura and Opera’r Ddraig.
Guy has won numerous awards and prizes at singing competitions in the South West, including The Junior Championship at Bristol Festival of Music and Drama and The Adult Championship at Kingswood Eisteddfod.
Guy will next be singing the role of Goran in Little Room Productions’ production of the newly composed opera by Matthew Pearson, The Wolves Descend, at The Winston Theatre, Bristol University.
A Busy Easter – “It has been a busy week full of four large singing commitments; a Cardiff University Choir concert, soloing as Evangelist with Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir, singing Nanki-Poo with Cardiff University Operatic Society and, last night, singing as tenor soloist with Cardiff Bach Choir….”
A Wand’ring Minstrel, I… – “Now that Opera’r Ddraig’s productions of Acis & Galatea and Dido & Aeneas are over, I can now focus on the other five opera productions I am in this year, a total of seven. I hope to work with the company in the future; in their 2013 production but also as their Cardiff University Liaison Officer….”
2012, a year for opera productions – “Sorry it has been a while since the last update, I have, as always, been very busy. I had a great Christmas of singing, including soloing for Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society; a section of recording from the concert is up on my Media page….”
